SHEA feedback on COVID-19 hospital surveillance requirementsThe following questions have been provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in partnership with the HHS Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness (ASPR) and other federal agency partners, collectively organized as the Data Strategy and Execution Working (DSEW) Group. DSEW is seeking feedback on your current experience with COVID-19 hospital reporting requirements and recommended changes that could reduce reporting burden, improve data quality, and ensure critical data are available to guide public health action. DSEW compiled a set of questions to help guide you in providing your feedback. Completing this survey may take 10-30 minutes depending on how much detail you choose to provide, and the number of colleagues you may need to consult within your institution. Which data elements do states rely on most heavily for decision making around hospital capacity and support needs? When responding to this question, it may be helpful to consider and address the following: o Most helpful data elements within the current FAQ o Most important data elements that are NOT in the FAQ—but should be o Most helpful elements that are technically “in” the current FAQ, but could benefit from reformulation for clarity/precision/concision With respect to the current FAQ data elements, which are most amenable to collection in the course of current workflows and operations, and which have required special build outs or data entry efforts? In short, which data elements are most/least burdensome to report and why? To what extent do facilities and state programs/partners have access to the data they report and how their status compares to that of local, regional, state, and national peers? Or, to what extent are the data being reported available to facilities and states in a form/manner that would help them drive meaningful action? What steps would SHEA members recommend HHS take to improve accessibility and usability of reported data for facility, local, state, or regional action?
