Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI)

Within this module, participants will gain a greater understanding of best practices for preventing Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTIs).

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Recognize evidence-based, appropriate indications for the use of indwelling urinary catheters
  2. Describe proper care of indwelling urinary catheters, including insertion and maintenance 
  3. Identify why and how to prioritize indwelling urinary catheter removal for reason pf preventing unintended consequence (CAUTIs and other healthcare-associated conditions) and avoiding inappropriate testing and antimicrobial use
