The environment plays a role as a reservoir for transmission of pathogens that cause healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). The healthcare environment includes all the inanimate objects in the hospital, from a stethoscope to the bedside table. All healthcare personnel are responsible for maintaining a clean environment. In this course, the participants will gain understanding of the “who, what, and how” of environmental cleaning.
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify, acknowledge, and participate in your role to maintain a clean environment
- Recognize the different aspects involved in the surface cleaning, including type of disinfectant amount, material compatibility, and contact time
