This webinar is part of the Compendium of Strategies to Prevent HAIs series. The purpose of this webinar is to review essential practices new to the 2022 Compendium.  Discussion will focus on Additional approaches such as use of antimicrobial impregnated/coated catheters, use of antimicrobial lock solutions for long term vascular access and use of vascular access teams. Some Unresolved issues will also be discussed such as surveillance of infections caused by other vascular catheters such as short-term peripheral catheters and use of antiseptic-containing end caps (so called port protectors).
 

Target Audience

Physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, pharmacists, hospital support staff (e.g., environmental services), infection preventionists.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe the updates to the SHEA CLABSI and CAUTI Compendium.
  2. Apply changes to IPC practices for the healthcare team based on the updates.
  3. Employ implementation strategies for the healthcare team by discussing reasoning behind each challenging recommendation.
  4. Recognize the importance of team building with vascular access staff for a successful program.
