This webinar is part of the Compendium of Strategies to Prevent HAIs series. This webinar will review the 2022/2023 updates to the SHEA Implementation and Hand Hygiene guidelines with focus on the standard approach to implementation, assessing determinants of change, choosing appropriate measures and selecting a framework, as well as a summary of the new hand hygiene content on glove use and prevention and environmental contamination from the 2023 Compendium.  In addition, some of the most difficult hand hygiene issues will be explored to include the role fingernails play in hand hygiene and what measurement strategies are most effective for improvement in hand hygiene compliance.

Target Audience

Multidisciplinary healthcare teams including but not limited to Healthcare Epidemiologist, Infection Preventionists, Nurses and those involved with Infection Control, Public Health, Quality Improvement and Patient Safety looking to collaborate to implement evidence-based practices, in particular for HAI prevention and to improve hand hygiene practices in their organization.

Learning Objectives

Implementation:
  1. Develop and incorporate a standard approach to implementing HAI prevention interventions in healthcare institutions.
  2. Demonstrate confidence in supporting HAI prevention within your healthcare team and healthcare setting through effective implementation of Compendium recommendations.
Hand Hygiene:
  1. Describe the implementation of appropriate glove use and how to take steps to reduce environmental contamination associated with sinks and sink drains.    
  2. Effectively collaborate with the healthcare team on decision-making related to fingernail policies and hand hygiene measurement strategies.
