Converse & Convene: AUR Reporting

Grab your favorite beverage, turn on your camera, and join the conversation! Converse & Convene is a virtual networking forum moderated by SHEA member experts who will lead and facilitate discussion and collaboration. Participants will be able to share challenges, lessons learned, and gain greater insight not only with their breakout groups but with a larger group discussion directly following and lead by the moderators. Please note this event is not recorded and is intended for participants to have a candid discussion around the selected topic. This event is open to SHEA members only.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that beginning in 2024, all acute-care hospitals and critical-access hospitals will be required to report to the NHSN AUR module. Register to attend and hear how other hospitals are tackling these requirements.

We will begin with a group discussion, and then move into breakout rooms. The conversation will get started with these questions, but please feel free to bring your own questions, ideas, and stories.

  1. Can you share how your facility currently uses the NHSN antimicrobial use and resistance (AUR) module to assist in Antimicrobial Stewardship or Infection Prevention program operations?
  2. Describe and share what internal/external partners and helpful resources you have engaged (or plan to engage) to plan for your facility to meet the CMS Promoting Interoperability standard in reporting AUR to NHSN in 2024 (e.g. EHR vendor resources?)
  3. What barriers have you encountered so far in reporting? Do you believe your facility will meet the 2024 deadline on time?
  4. Do you have plans, hopes, or a future ideal vision for the data your hospital contributes or receives by participating NHSN AUR reporting? What about concerns, fears, or questions?
  5. What specific information do you believe is missing or needs further clarification from NHSN or CMS about the new requirement?
