Design & Construction for the Hospital Epidemiologist
This webinar will discuss design and construction in the pre-, during and post-construction phases, including the importance of early IP involvement in design & construction, what goes into an ICRA, preventative measures that should be in place to prevent transmission, and when to suspect construction-related issues when patient infections occur.
Target Audience
Infectious diseases physicians, Healthcare Epidemiologists, Infection Preventionists, facilities management, hospital safety officers
Learning Objectives
- Explore IP-related design issues (sinks, HH dispensers, fire compartments), including pearls & pitfalls in intelligent design.
- Discuss the importance of creating an ICRA and doing construction rounds.
- During construction, know what preventative measures should be in place to prevent transmission of environmental organisms.
- Know which populations are high-risk and determine when to consider construction issues when certain diagnoses occur (e.g., aspergillosis).
- Know when to consider water system problems (e.g., Legionella).
- Know how to deal with emergent issues (water leaks, etc.) and when/if to perform air sampling.
