Pathogen Transmission
Learning Objectives
Diarrheal Illness
At the end of this module, the learner will be able to:
- Discuss the role the environment plays in the pathogen transmission.
- List the five moments to perform hand hygiene.
- Discuss how symptom-based precautions can prevent the spread of infections.
- Discuss Contact Isolation and when it should be employed.
- Discuss ways healthcare professionals can transmit pathogens.
Respiratory Viral Illness
At the end of this module, the learner will be able to:
- Discuss the modes of transmission and the period of infectivity for common respiratory viruses, including influenza.
- Identify appropriate transmission-based precautions for common respiratory viruses and accurately apply the use of personal protective equipment for a given scenario.
- Recognize that annual influenza vaccination is recommended strategy for prevention of seasonal influenza and discuss common myths associated with influenza vaccination.
Airborne Infection
At the end of this module, the learner will be able to:
- Identify pathogens that require airborne isolation precautions.
- Describe the rationale and the components of airborne isolation, specifically the airborne infection isolation room and airborne respiratory protection.
