Pneumonia is common healthcare-associated infection (HAI) that is associated with increased morbidity, mortality and overall costs of care. Understanding the definitions, diagnosis, and salient methods for prevention is critical for frontline healthcare personnel to decrease HAI rates and optimize care.
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Restate appropriate indications for non-invasive and invasive respiratory support
- Explain why and how to perform evidence-based respiratory hygiene and device maintenance
- Identify the types of pneumonia that may appear in patients who are hospitalized and ways to prevent them
