Patient Safety Culture as a Tool for Preventing HAIs

July 30, 2025

Description

This session will provide an overview of patient safety principles, with emphasis on the interdisciplinary approach to fostering a strong safety culture within healthcare teams. The discussion will center on the four key features of safety culture according to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). These features include recognition that healthcare involves the potential for patient harm, a culture of psychological safety, collaborative teamwork across disciplines, and prioritization of patient safety at the level of the institution. Presenters will identify the linkage between patient safety culture and clinical outcomes. Acknowledging the linkage between patient safety culture and clinical outcomes is an important aspect of developing and implementing strategies for HAI reduction.
