ID Fellow Curriculum Certificate Program ADVANCED

Description

The Advanced Pathway is intended for fellows interested in pursuing leadership roles in Infection Prevention & Control and Healthcare Epidemiology. Building upon the foundational competencies covered in the Basic Pathway, the Advanced Pathway includes more extensive training, advanced practice experiences, and a scholarly project. It is designed for fellows seeking a longitudinal IPC/HE training experience and preparation for future leadership responsibilities within hospital epidemiology and infection prevention programs.

To earn the Advanced Pathway Certificate, participants must:

Complete 80% of Fundamental Objectives (62 objectives available)
Complete at least 25% of Advanced Objectives (32 objectives available)
Complete an approved Scholarly Project in Infection Prevention or Healthcare Epidemiology
Earn 100% on all completed knowledge checks (unlimited attempts allowed)
Achieve a satisfactory score (90% or higher) on graded reflections, evaluations, and other performance-based assessments
Receive a score of 80% or higher on the Scholarly Project evaluation

Upon completion of all required components, a certificate will be issued upon successful completion of the course and verification of all requirements through a manual review process.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

Apply NHSN surveillance definitions to accurately identify healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and distinguish them from clinical diagnoses.
Implement foundational infection prevention strategies, including standard precautions, transmission-based precautions, and evidence-based practices to reduce HAIs across healthcare settings.
Collaborate with infection prevention teams to interpret HAI data and support outbreak detection, investigation, and response efforts within healthcare systems.
