The Role of AI in Infection Prevention & Antibiotic Stewardship

This session will provide the participants with a basic understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML).  The fundamental terminology of AI/ML will be reviewed and examples of application in the areas of Infection Prevention and Antimicrobial Stewardship will be shared.  Limitations and potential pitfalls of the application of AI/ML will be reviewed.

Leveraging WGS in Healthcare Epidemiology

This webinar will begin with describing the methodology used when performing whole genome sequencing and what is required for its implementation. Speakers will examine its utility when applied to routine, prospective infection prevention surveillance efforts and how this compares to reactively sequencing in the context of an epidemiological signal. Nuances pertaining to specific organisms will be incorporated. Lastly, speakers will present metrics that can be used in assessing the impact of whole genome sequencing in these efforts.

Practical Examples of Applying AI & WGS in IP & Antimicrobial Stewardship

The goal of this program is to provide practical examples of how artificial intelligence (AI) and whole genome sequencing (WGS) have been effectively integrated into infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship programs. Attendees will learn how these technologies are used to predict outbreaks, trace pathogen transmission, and optimize antimicrobial stewardship interventions. There will be a panel discussion afterwards.
