Expanding the Armamentarium with AI & Whole Genome Sequencing

Description

This three-part webinar series is designed to provide healthcare professionals with essential artificial intelligence (AI) and whole genome sequencing (WGS) skills for infection prevention and control and antibiotic stewardship. Participants will learn AI concepts, such as machine learning and natural language processing, and their applications in predicting outbreaks and optimizing antimicrobial use and infection prevention. This program explores practical tools for integrating AI, strategies for overcoming challenges, and the use of WGS in infection surveillance.
Participants will see real-world instances where AI and WGS have enhanced infection control and antibiotic stewardship to showcase how healthcare professionals can collaborate effectively to utilize AI and WGS in improving infection control and antibiotic stewardship efforts.

Target Audience

  • ID Physicians
  • Microbiologists
  • Infection Control (IPC)
  • Hospital Leadership
  • Pharmacists

Learning Objectives

After participating in this activity, learners will be able to:
  1. Illustrate practical applications of artificial intelligence (AI) and whole genome sequencing (WGS) in infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship, including predicting outbreaks, tracing pathogen transmission, and optimizing interventions.
  2. Describe fundamental terms in artificial intelligence and examples of how AI has been applied in the fields of antibiotic stewardship and infection prevention.
  3. Identify the resources needed to assemble a multidisciplinary team and implement WGS during an epidemiologic investigation.

PHYSICIANS:

The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

ABIM MOC Recognition Statement
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 1.00 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to Joint Accreditation for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

By submitting a claim for ABIM MOC, you hereby give SHEA permission to share individual physician participation information with ABIM through JA PARS.

NURSES:

The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.00 CNE credit. Nurses should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

PHARMACISTS:

CPE Accreditation Statement for Pharmacists
SHEA is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. ACPE Universal Activity Number has yet to be assigned to this activity. This activity is acceptable for a maximum of 1.00 live CPE contact hours (1.00 CEUs) in states that recognize ACPE providers.

Upon completion of this ACPE-approved activity, participants will receive 1.00 credits on their NABP e-Profile section of the CPE Monitor. It is the participant's responsibility to upload the correct NABP number and date of birth when submitting your evaluation.
